Citizen of the Year 2007 This is the time of year when we celebrate. It is the holidays! We plan activities and get-togethers with families and friends. We are asked to think of others less fortunate and try to help ensure they too have a happy holiday. At this time of year your Chamber asks you as a community to take a moment and think of someone that you know or at least have heard of that stands out in our community for their contribution to our community. Chase is blessed with many people who fit this role. Years ago the Chamber imitated the Citizen of the Year award. The community was asked to nominate a person that felt deserved recognition for their community work. The criteria being the person must be a long time resident of Chase, and that their contribution was over a long period of time and they had helped in a variety of areas. The Chamber has a committee made up of the office manager, an executive of the Chamber and the previous year’s winner. These people review the nominations and choose based on the criteria. Until this moment they are the only people who know who the recipient is: It is my honour as president to share with you some of the comments about our recipient. Words used to describe this person Passionate Fair Dedicated Kind Eye for detail This person is a long time resident of the area and is VERY passionate about this town. This person is an avid supporter of our hockey team. They have been very active in promoting our community. They regularly attend council meetings and have attended meetings in other communities to promote our town, and hopefully find funding for community Development while at the same time preserving our uniqueness. This person is very active in the Centennial committee and all the plans for our upcoming celebrations. This person is very active with our local chamber, and is a constant help with all chamber events; such as the fishing derby, chamber dance, and keeping the info centre sign up to date. This person is also a very active member of our museum society and heritage building society. They have created walking tours on the historical sites and trails in and around town. They recently created, at their own expense, a pamphlet for the town waking tour. I could continue with many little things that have for a very long time not received the recognition they deserve so at this time I would like you all to stand and join with me in giving a warm thank you for all their community work to our very own “Local Historian” DAVID LEPSOE.
The award is available to an individual or couple of any age and will be based on his/her/their contributions to Society. The award is intended to honour someone who has contributed to the welfare of the Chase community in some general manner and does not necessarily have to have contributed in the current year but could be a long time contributor to the community. The qualifications are: 1. The person nominated must be a Citizen of Chase and district for at least one year. 2. Must be of good character 3. Must have contributed generally to Society (not just to an organization or cause) The winner announced at the Christmas Party on December 8th.
